Theosophical Initiates can pass through 9 levels, as they progress their spiritual development.
At the fourth level of Initiation, the soul has reached enlightenment & no longer needs to reincarnate.
Most people believe enlightenment to be the "end-goal". But I prefer the explanation of C.W. Leadbeater, occult author and member of the Theosophical Society.
He refers to the process of an Initiate as: "we try to develop ourselves not that we may become great and wise, but that we may have the power and knowledge to work for humanity to the best effect."
Enlightenment is actually the first step to achieve before you can be of real service to others.
Think about how much more available to others when you're content with your own life.
